Signs of Twin Pregnancy

A mother’s joy on learning about her twin pregnancy maybe momentarily modified by the complications such pregnancies might impose. But a woman's body is amazing and with proper medical care - the having a twin pregnancy should not be a concern. In fact, the rewards of raising two chidren who appear to be the same, yet clearly are two individuals, is beyond measure.

So how can you tell if you are pregnant with twins?

There are many signs which suggest twin pregnancies. The first sign is an intensified morning sickness with its attending symptoms of vomiting and nausea. Due to carrying twins, your body's hormonal adjustments are even more stressful than a one child pregnancy.

Mothers have reported that with a twin pregnancy they experience extreme tiredness compared to a more typical gestation. All expectant mothers may experience fatigue, but those with twins feel it is greater than the routine tiredness. Thankfully, when it comes to delivery time, it does not appear to be that much more difficult in giving birth to two children rather than one.

Ther are other signs of a twin pregnancy. Your hunger pangs are greater. The reason for this are faily obvious... Feeding three lives instead of two, is going to demand more calories and cause greater hunger pangs.

Hormone-wise, twin pregnancies can really be a roller-coaster. The body produces greater amounts of hormones to withstand the pressure of a twin birth.

This automatically influences mood swings in mothers. Hence one is bound to witness much larger mood swings in women delivering twin babies. Subtle and raw variations in mood in a small a time period as five minutes cannot be ruled out for such a mother.

On the medical side, during the early states of your pregnancy, intensified levels of HcG often points towards mother having twins. When an alpha-fetoprotein screening is done to determine any small or large sized birth defects, for mothers holding twin fetuses, the levels measured, if higher than usual, can indicate twins.

On a physical level, Mothers and doctors will eventually discover the presence of two heartbeats in the womb. And last, but not the least, the time-tested formula of an ultrasound will more than adequately state that you have a twin pregnancy, if that is the case.
